This painting was made in Winter 2019 while I was in the process of applying to transfer to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. I was only halfway through my first semester of art and design curriculum, so I had a very limited pool of artwork to use for my portfolio application. So, I decided to create a few pieces on my own outside of classes. This was one of those works created from an image I took the previous summer. It was done before I was ever exposed to a painting class and is one of my very first explorations into color and mark-making with paint. Although not as strong as the work I can create today, it is still a painting I had enjoyed making and shows how far I have come.
